A small tweak on a famous quote. But it seems to hold true, that whatever I spend my “thought time” on, dictates the nature of my life and actions.
So what do you spend most of your time thinking about?
Lewis says this:
“If you read history you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were precisely those who thought most of the next… minds… occupied with Heaven. It is since Christians have largely ceased to think of the other world that they have become so ineffective in this. Aim at Heaven and you will get earth ‘thrown in’: aim at earth and you will get neither. It seems a strange rule, but something like it can be seen at work in other matters. Health is a great blessing, but the moment you make health one of your main, direct objects you start becoming a crank and imagining there is something wrong with you. You are only likely to get health provided you want other things more -food, games, work, fun, open air. In the same way, we shall never save civilization as long as civilization is our main object. We must learn to want something else even more.”
It matters what you think about.
The Bible says this about thinking:
Colossians 3:2
2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
Philippians 4:8
8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Romans 8:5-6
5Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace;
All to say, it matters what you spend your time thinking about.
